Calculation Method
seconds
RR Interval Method:
- • Measure time between consecutive R waves
- • Formula: Heart Rate = 60 ÷ RR interval (seconds)
- • Most accurate for irregular rhythms
Normal Heart Rate Ranges:
• Adults: 60-100 bpm (resting)
• Athletes: 40-60 bpm (resting)
• Elderly: 50-100 bpm
• Children (1-10 years): 70-120 bpm
• Infants: 100-160 bpm
Additional Methods:
6-second method: Count complexes in 6 seconds × 10
Small squares method: 1500 ÷ small squares between R waves
Sequence method: 300, 150, 100, 75, 60, 50 (for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 large squares)
